Hi All

Please answer my questions:

1) What are the steps involved during N-400 processing?
2) When does the Name-Check happen? Before or after FP?
3) What would be the online case status messages during the N-400 processing?
4) Could I travel outside of US after completing FP?

5) Could I change address easily at INS after FP?
6) Does the interview letter gets forwarded by postoffice locally if I move?

Please....... Please........... Please............. Please let me know.

Thanks,
Homer

1) What do you mean steps? Basically you wait and wait and wait again and you wait longer if you are in rush.
2) I guess in the last discussion we had, we came to conclusion that Check Name initiates at the time they send you the FP notice (did I make that up?)
3) Online case status during N-400 is totally useless. Don’t you even think about it twice because it won't work neither for you nor anyone else. It is just to give you the feeling that you are important.
4) You can always travel, but make sure it is short just in case you received any other notice of action during your absence (Interview, etc.)
5) Change of address will confuse USCIS all the time. People have lived in the same address for many years since they came to this country and their mail get lost. What do you expect from them? I wouldn't do it in middle of the process but it is up to you.
6) NOP!! Official letters usually ask for Return Service Requested, which means if you have changed you address and you have not notified them, they will make you to do it by not sending you anything till you notify them. Therefore your change of address request with your post office won't work with most of the letters from governmental agencies.

I hope that I could have answered one of your questions :D

Good Luck

Changing district during the N-400 always incurs at least a 90 day delay due to the need to re-establish residency in the new location. Changing address within the same district isn't so bad. Either way, you need to make sure USCIS is adequately notified - these days the online AR-11 is supposed to take case of updating your ongoing N-400, but who really knows if it works....

I may have to move within the same area since I am planning sell my home.

Nimche - I saw few messages about getting stuck in the NameCheck.

Just wondering if that is one of the steps during the N-400 processing.
