STEM 17 month OPT Extension and work

Hi,

I have MS in Computer Science. I am on 12 Month OPT and it is expiring in Feb'2010. Currently working in Startup Company as a Volunteer means i am not getting paid.
Now this Startup Company is also E-verified. so on that bases i want to apply for 17 Month STEM OPT Extension.
On internet i had read that "while on 17 month OPT person must be paid. person can not work as volunteer while on 17 month OPT."

So i am confused .

can anybody please tell me that can i work without paid while i am on 17 month STEM OPT?

if yes then it will not create problem in future for Green Card and Citizenship?

Please help me.

You must be paid on OPT-EXT.

but while applying for Extension they didnt ask for any document like pay check and other stuff?

so why they says Must be Paid on 17 month OPT Ext.
