I am a Permanent Resident (US) since July' 2008. I came to India on 18th of May 2010 for a short stay.
But I would like stay here for for more than an Year for domestic reasons. Can I stay here for a longer period ? If so what is the Procedure to be followed for getting extension permits. Can I do this from India since I am at Present in India.
Please Clarify.
Thanks

If you want to stay for a year or more you're supposed to apply for a reentry permit when still inside the US.

The only option available outside the US is to apply for a Returning Resident Visa (SB-1) at a US consulate. However, you can only apply for it after you've already completed a year outside the US (if you apply before the year is up, they'll tell you to return to the US with your GC), and you need to prove that there were unforseen circumstances that forced your trip to be longer than a year. If it is denied your green card is dead, so the SB-1 is really a last resort.
