Staying outside US after Passport Stamping

My daughter(H4) I485 approved and will get stamped on 10/09.
She is planning to leave US for about 6 months to 1 year.

Please let me know will there be any problem in maintaing the GC.
Do I need to take any permission from INS to stay outside US for 6 months to 1 year.

for a stay of 1year, you need to take prior permission to avoid losing the permanent residence status. My advice is to be a little cautious and take permission even if the stay is > 6 months.
