Staying out of US in the 3 months prior to applying for citizenship

Before applying for citizenship, a candidate has estalish residency for 3 months in the jurisdiction of the district office. Can the applicant be out of the country for some time while he / she continues to maintain residence within the jurisdiction. I have not seen anything to support / refute this. So asking this question

This has been extensively discussed before. The salient points are that assuming your return to the US takes you back to the same address as when you left, your official "residence within a district" is not interrupted. (No need to repeat the 3 month period.)

The other issue is that you generally cannot submit the application while you are out of the country.
