Staying on H1-B status vs. EAD

My current status is H-1B and my employer is about to file AOS for me. My employer has told me that I can apply for EAD if I want, or stay with my H-1B status (which will expire in December).

I'd like to know the pros and cons of having an EAD approved, as opposed to just staying with H-1B status. Thanks!

You can work with your H1-B and ALSO have an approved EAD at the same time. An approved EAD will not void your H1-B BUT if you decide to use your EAD for employment, your H1-B is voided.

Thanks for your response.

Are there any advatages of having the approved EAD versus just H1-B status? and are there any disadvantages?

Advantages for EAD: Much cheaper ($180) to get and renew it if you have to pay for yourself, H1B morn than $2000.

Disadvantages of EAD: If your I485 is denied, although there is only rare chance, but if that happens, you lost status, because you are not H1B anymore.

My coworker just use EAD, because he paid too much already and he couldn't stand it any more.
