Staying on B-visa over 1 year

I am LPR and my wife just got B-visa stamped for 2 years in her passport. We need to stay in US for about 1.5 years, so extension wouldn't work. So, is it possible to go let's say to Canada or Mexico once 6 months would come to a close, surrender I-94 and then re-enter let's say a week later getting new I-94 good for another 6 months and then extend the second I-94 for another 6?

Any comments/experiences?

I think we can apply for 2nd extn.(total 1.5 yrs) People have done it. But may get denied also. Risky for future visits. I dont know how far canada visit will work

B-Visa Extension

I believe that there is a new rule that B-Visas may not be extended within US after 6 months. People have to go to Canada/Mexico or their country of origin and then re-enter. Me trying to have my father (who is on BVisa) with me for longer than 6 months...

The only new rule i heard about is the end to visa revalidation, that has nothing to do with visa extension.

Now only problem with visa extensions is the future entries, as the intent might percievd to be to immigrate.

immifive,

dont get confused with visa revalidation. I think there is no change in v extension. But problems may be there for future entry into usa. I was able to extend for my mom this Jan.

Difference between visa revalidation and visa extension

Can you please help me understand difference between visa revalidation and visa extension?

Thanks.

Revalidation: The visa stamp in your passport has expired and you want to travel outside US and return. The visa revalidation service provides another new visa stamp that allows you to do so.

Extension: your status (h1, etc.) is extended in the US by USCIS. Your legal stay on the US is governed by the status and the duration. If your H1 is expiring or you change jobs, you apply for extension of status.

Anyway, coming back to the subject. Anybody could post anything regarding re-entering US and getting new I-94 a week after 6 months stay? Is it possible? How probable is it to get another 6 months like this?

Regarding 2nd extension, the probability is less then 25% to get 2nd extension. That's why I am looking for other options.

My opinion is re-entering with 6 months i94 may be hard. So 2nd extn. may the possibility. YOu will not get a new I-94 when you travel by road.

This is what I learned too. So it leaves only US Immigration in Canadians airports. Any ideas how hard would it be to get new I-94 good for next 6 months from US Immigration in Canadians airports having fresh Canadian PR on hands? There is a good reason for entering - moving from US to Canada...

On the other note, when leaving US by road, how would one surrender I-94 and get passport stamped with the date of leaving US?

Before 9/11 I didn't surrender I-94 when I travelled by road. They just checked visa and I-94 and passport while going and coming back.

"They" would be Canadians when you were leaving, right? Last November when I was crossing US-Canada border by road I also never seen any US Immigration officer to surrender I-94. I had Canadians looking at my GC and letting me in. So how does one surrender I-94 and get passport stamped of leaving US?

MOCKBA - can you let us know what you did

Hey MOCKBA-
can you let us know what you finally did. I am also in a similar situation and wanted to find out if you were able to get a new I-94 with fresh 6 months of stay by travelling to Canada by road?
Thanks
