Hello all,

so far i haven't received my Plastic card.next month, I am leaving for India . If i want to stay longer than my stamp period, what do i need to get the visa?
Is there any form i need to submit to INS.

Any suggestions...

There are some conditions if you are planning to stay outside the country for more than 6 months. Please talk to an immigration attorney or check the www.ins.gov or see "Life After Green Card" thread in this site.

[Only if you have the plastic]

If you must depart the US for such an extended absence(> 6 months), you must apply for a reentry permit, which is a reentry document valid for two years. Please note that you must be physically present in the US at the time of filing of the application for a reentry permit.
If you have stayed outside the US for more than a year and do not have a reentry permit or if you have a reentry permit but have not reentered the US during the period of its valididty, then a "special immigrant visa" can be asked for from the consulate. You must establish legitimate reasons that prevented your coming to the US, to the consulate to get this.

Re: according to my

You have a point.
Re-entry permit is only issued for the period of validity of I-551 .
