Stay in US`after H1 expires

Hi Rajeev,
I'm currently on H1 visa. My last day with the employer sponsoring my H1 is Sep 30, 2009. After that how long can I stay in USA? Is there any grace period?
What are the options I have?

Hi Upasana and Rajeev,

My situation is similar. My last date is Sep 30th. If its on or before 30th my employer will get me return tickets to India. If not I have to bare the flight charges. I'm planning to go back with employer's tickets to save some money.

My employer will cancel my H1 for sure.

Here are my questions..
1. After going back to India if I get a project here what is the process to get back to US legally?
2. Can i travel back with same Visa after my new H1 is approved?
3. Do I have to start the process all over again... New H1 petition--> Approval--> Stamping..
4. I heard a concept of Reinstating H1? what it is and is it related to my situation.
