I am palnning to travel and stay in India for 2 to 3 months . Will it affect my interview date . Any similar experiences?

It shouldn't if it is only for 2-3 months. Have a friend check your mail just in case you receive something from BCIS.

Stay in India

First of all, make sure it doesn't affect your overall physical presence. 3 months isn't that long time but look at the total time outside of US.

Also, it depends where did you apply. According to AILA's reports it takes only 180 days to naturalize at some district offices. If you are lucky enough, you could be called for an interview at anytime now. But on the other hand it could be another year before they call you up.

So... as Gabby mentioned if you have somebody checking your mailbox and are ready to return to US if necessary it will be OK.

(I am not sure about this but I think I read somewhere that if you don't attend your scheduled interview and don'tt ask for it to be rescheduled your application will be terminated.)

P.S. I could use 3 month vacation at anytime :D

We are considering moving to India for good (preferably after applying for the Citizenship.) Do you think INS would allow us to come to US just for FP and/or Interview/Oath? Would it create any problems at the time of interview? We have been continuously in the US for 5 years, so the physical presence test would be met.

I don't know

That's a tough question.

As a LPR you need to maintain a permanent residence here. And the number of days etc. are just a way of proving it to the INS.
If you move abroad for good you may be viewed by the INS that you abandoned your residence.

Call them up. I know it may take awhile to get through now, when the local numbers got merged.
I had a question about my N-400 and was eventually transferred to an immigration officer who asnwered clearly and professionally.
Lawyer could help you also but from my personal experience they will give you any answer that will make you pay them money:mad:

George F, the total time of absence arose my interest. Can you explain the word " total" and how many days can we be absent totally? Thank you very much for your explanation.

You have to be physically present half the time required (5 or 3 years) in addition to the requirement that no single trip be over 180 days.

Look into the Guide to Naturalization. There you will find examples of all kinds of scenarios with the explanations of the rules that apply.
