status while 485 pending

two questions:
what status do I have while 485 pending? I already have my ead and ap approved.
what the chances are to get the 485 approved...is it true that the most difficult part is the I140???

As an adjustment of status applicant, you are lawfully present in the U.S., regardless of your underlying nonimmigrant status.

The I-485 procedure is relatively straightforward in comparison to the I-140 - you file the I-485 form with the documents requested on the form's instructions and then wait for your interview. Provided that your sponsoring employer still wishes to employ you, the interview should be brief and quite painless. The snag with I-485 (like any immigration porcedure) is the amount of time it takes until you get to the interview! (this varies depending on where you are filing - NYC is horrendous).
