Status of my N400 application

Good morning all,

My application was received on 12/28/06 and I had my fingerprints taken thereafter. I am considered for a federal position but cannot apply unless I am a citizen. I have been trying to check the status of my application on line and over the phone (Vermont Service Center) but cannot find any information applicable to the N400 applications.
Does any of you have any idea how much longer I will have to wait or what number to call and get info (and not a recorded message)?

Alternatively, you can also take an Infopass appointment and talk with an immigration officer at your USCIS district office. You can schedule an Infopass appointment online at http://infopass.uscis.gov/

The problem is that there is very little information available before you get your interview letter. You will be "in process".

The only information you might get is that your application is being held up because of the "name check" process. It's useful to know that - it can mean that your application is being held up, perhaps for months or years. Unfortunately, knowing that isn't wonderfully useful - there's nothing you can do about it except get hyper.
