My husband and I are GC holders and we are expecting a baby. Due to some personal reasons, I wd have to deliver the baby in India?
Is it possible to bring the baby back to the US after a couple of months and if yes - what wd be the baby's visa category??

Yes, you can bring the baby back to US and the baby gets green card status at port of entry. The following conditions must be met:
1. This must be the baby's and mother's first visit after baby's birth.
2. baby must be <2 year old.
3. Baby should have a passport and original birth certificate with both parent's full names included.
Baby should be accompanied by mother or both parents.
4. Immi style photos (I am not so sure on this)

At port of entry the passport will be stamped with I-551.

No other documentation or visa from a US consulate is required.
