Status Information Letter (from Selective Services)

The Guide to Naturalization states that I need to send the "Status Information Letter" issued from the selective services. I entered the U.S in 1993. I stayed on FI and then H1B from Nov. 1993 to 2/15/2002. I became permamnet resident on 2/15/2002, at the age of 31. I was still on H1B at my 26th birthday and I didn't register with SS - I didn't even know of such a thing until very recently.

Do I really really need to get this information letter from SSS and send it with my application?

You are only required to register if you are 26 and under and a LPR (Permanent Resident)

IF you became a green-card holder after 26 then it is not a requirement.
In either case and to safe-guard your filing just send a letter to the SS to get a repsonse from them, it cannot hurt.

No need for a SS letter because you are now older than 31, so even if you had been required to register and failed to do so, it was outside USCIS's 5 yr window for good moral behavior. You can read more here if you're really interested.
