Status if previous employer revokes H1B?

I am on H1B visa stamping with company A and my spouse on H4 visa stamping. I got laidoff from company A and within few days I joined with company B H1B. I am not sure if company A cancelled my H1B with them. If me and my spouse want to visit outside US for a short trip and come back to US, do we need to get company B visa stamping on our passports if company A already cancelled my H1B with them? If so, does my spouse H4 also need to get stamped? What is the difference between H1 transfer and a new H1?
