Status change after I-140 rejection

This is great forum to get answers about immigration.

I am on OPT which is expiring on 31st Dec 2007. I did not get H1B as cap was reached.

I have question regarding a hypothetical situation:

If I apply I-140 EB1-EA and I-485 simultaneously and I get EAD before I-140 decision. But imagine if my I 140 is denied then

- is it possible to change to some other status like F2 (my wife has F1) or
H1B university cap exempt????

I also would like to know, based on experience of forum members, about average time required to get EAD after I-485 application.

Be careful, if you apply for 485 you are displaying an immigrant intent. So F1 and F2 visas, which are supposed to be non-immigrant, in future may be in jeopardy.
