It looks like we only need to get transcripts from IRS for tax returns. But what about proof that we filed state tax? Do we need to get state tax transcripts as well?

You may want to visit the state's tax web site. & check for FAQ.

for instance to get your MN tax returns of previous yrs:

Or phone them.

it is always a good idea to get those info on hands. document is not listed on the guideline which does not mean they might not be asked.

btw, my friend went thru her interview and all she brought with her was passports and green card. she passed the interview and now she is an US citizenship. go figure about "required document"
