State Department Modifies Immigrant Visa Process

The Department of State recently eliminated the Packet 4, which was mailed to immigrant visa applicants to notify them of their consular interview.

Noting that in the 40 years since the Packet 4 system was introduced, there have been tremendous gains in electronic communications. Moreover, changes to the immigrant visa system over the years have eliminated Packets 1 and 2, creating confusion through the numbering system.

In addition to the elimination of Packet 4, Packet 3 has been renamed “Instruction Package for Immigrant Visa Applicants.” What was formerly Packet 4 will now be called “Appointment Package for Immigrant Visa Applicants.” Forms are also being renamed and in some cases, modified.

Raj Can you Clarify Please !!!

How is the CP affected ? as far as the process is concerned what is changed ? like once I -140 is approved INS sends the file to NVC which used to create Packet III and mail it to Agent /Consular post. Once the P3 is recieved by the consular they will schedule interview and send P4.

How is the above process affected ? if at all it is affected other than changing the names ?

Change of Procedures....don\'t panic...

Guys...
Just calm down. The greatest fear is ignorance, which is what this new process has created. Let us all talk to our lawyers and other people who are doing CP and find out what has really changed. Don\'t panic.

I went to the State Department website and read the contents of the MEMO signed by Colin Powell. It eliminates the Packet III and is replaced with "Instructions" package (see the exact name) and likewise Packet IV is eliminated in favour of some other package. We just have to find out from our lawyers what this whole deal is about. I will be talking to my lawyer shortly and if I get some information from my lawyer, I will be sure to stop by and post it here. Count on it and for God\'s sake, don\'t panic.

Thanks.
