starting home business in US

I am currently working on H1B for a firm. My GC will take some time to come. My wife is on H-4. My close friend holds a legal export business in India and would like to have me take care of US customers. Is it legal and safe to put my wife's name and my US home address on his letterhead so that we can correspond to the clients with ease. She is not a legal partner of his company as of now but eventually will be. We are very honest in terms of business but just in case if something goes wrong and the client is angry, can I have a problem since my name and address is on the letterhead?
Am I legal to do all this stuff. If not, then is there a way to do it legally? DO I need a help from lawyer? I don't know much about law.
Please advice,
Mohit

Thanks Joe for your advice.
Another question:
If my friend send me some product samples through a normal courier shipment.
Will it create a big deal or a problem for me in the future, if I just forward those items to his clients through regular USPS or FedEx? I won't have my name anywhere in the business.

How risky this would be? This might be a easy question for you but I am new to this immigration laws so I won't mind asking the dumbest question.

My green card is in processing stage and I wanted to know all the cons before I proceed with it. I haven't started anything yet.

thanks again,
Mohit
