Which date is starting date as a PR, I-485 approval date or stamping date?

I think it is I-485 approval date, otherwise, the gap between the approval and stamp becomes a grey period. But, everyone rushes to stamp with approval notices, seems no need to rush for stamping.

If you became PR thru AOS, then the PR start date is the date of approval of I-485. If you entered US with an immigrant visa, it will be the date of stamping.
