Hi,
I have a valid L1 recently renewed till 2010. I also have an EAD through my husband’s company and I would like to move to EAD so that I can start my own company on the side. Is it legal to work for an employer in L1 and start and work for my own company on EAD? I am not able to get an answer from anyone. It will be awesome if you can help with this. Appreciate any help on this.

With the EAD, you are allowed to work with any employer, including starting your own

With the EAD, you are allowed to work with any employer, including starting your own company.

The basic requirement is that as the principal applicant of the I-140/I-485 application, you must work in the "Same or Similar" field for the AC21 portability purposes, for you to obtain the Green Card approval.

In your case, you are the "dependent", not the "principal applicant", so you can start a company and work for it on the EAD, there are no restrictions for the dependent.
