HI,
At the outset i wish to thank ALL YOU guys in this forum. It is more of a family here trust me.

Ok now. I got the courtesy copy of my approval yesterday i.e June 7th and based on the advice of some of our friends here, i went for stamping even though i did not have the original.

The q was not much and initially people with appointment were allowed and we followed. ( Though i did not have the appointment , was no 1 anyway )

I carried the following
-Courtesy copy of Approval
-Passport
-I-94
-All EAD's
-All Advance parole
-2 Photos as we took for EAD etc. We need to write our Names and A# behind each photo by Pencil lightly.

Please do carry ALL THE ABOVE DOCUMENTS at the minimum.

The guy at the windows was one of the sweetest persons i have met. Saw my snap and said you do smile well!

Destroyed my Adavnce parole but returned the photos. Similarly destroyed my EAD's but returned the photo.

He filled up a form and I had to Finger print on it ( right index finger only ) and Sign too.

He then stamped my PP and entered that this is a temporary work permit etc.

He said i would get my Plastic card within 6 weeks.
Important : He said make sure you put your NAME IN BLOCK / BOLD / CAPITALS INSIDE YOUR MAILING BOX to ensure that the plastic card is not returNed for any reason.

And thus ended my stamping episode which was very peaceful and i am now looking for flight tickets to go to India and meet my parents whom i have not met for the last 4.5 years!!!!!

I WISH YOU ALL THE VERY BEST AND SINCERELY PRAY GOD TO DO JUSTICE TO ONE AND ALL ASAP!!! Take care and THANKS A TON ONCE AGAIN FOR ALL YOUR SUPPORT.

Dear Dumbo,

Great to hear everything went fine. Have a good trip to india and enjoy.

Which place (city, state) did you get stamped if it is not a problem please tell me. Just curious because you have mentioned that the officer at the counter informed you that it will be 6 weeks before the actual card arrives.

One of my friends in KY mentioned that when he went for stamping he was told that it would take anything between 1 to 1.5 years for the actual card to arrive.

Thanks
golu

Congratulations and a very informative mail. I am sure you will enjoy your Vacation time in India. But just check in the forum with guys (their experience) who had gone to India after stamping and before getting the Plastic card.

It is better to be on safer side than being on the sorry side. Just a thought.

I have a question about photo ID. Did they ask you to show any photo ID at any point like at security or counter. I heard that they ask for Driver LIcense or State ID. That way they can see your picture and address also.

...

What are their acceptable picture IDs. Is there a way that I can avoid showing DL
Please help.
Hi, us_immigrant,
In my experiences at San Jose and Los Angeles, DL is required only when we entered into the building for security.

You may use your EAD instead of DL, but I am not sure.
Good luck.

dumbo,

What time of the day did you go for stamping? Do we have to go early in the morning only!

Also which office did you go to ? SJC or SF or some other.

Thx!

Well i went as early as 3.30 am in the morning though i realized it was not necessary. Probably 5-5.30 would have been fine. But then i am referring to Denver where i got it done.Any other question pls let me know.

How about parking there?
