Reached there at 7:45 and security guard told us to stand in a long non-appointment line at Washington. I had to deposit camera cell phone in an across the street restaurant (they charge $3 for the service). Got inside the building at 9:45. There was an announcement at 10:15 that there are no more tokens for the day. Our number was D472. Running number at that time was 419, it went very slow and stopped at 12:15 on D440. They started it again at 1:40 and it went pretty fast there after. We were called at 2:10 and were out within 10 minutes. We were not asked to hand over EAD/ AP. Interestingly, my kid's passport is valid till mid November but was stamped for one year. Relieved!

Once you are a perm resident, your passport expiry does not matter to USCIS anymore. In fact, you can enter USA showing your temporary stamp on an expired passport (obviously you will not able to leave USA without a valid passport). In fact, when your have your plastic card, it's not mandatory to present your passport to a POE officer (unless he/she asks for it).
