Finally i am done with stamping today i.e 2/17/04. No problems and everything went smooth. But the wait was painful. Total process took 5 hours. It is possible to request an appointment by calling 1800 375 5283 so that you can avoid standing in line to get the token. Still you have to wait till your number is called which will not be too bad. I have see a couple who came there for renewal with an appointment. Although i am not sure if they can give appointments for first timers, i am positive and you can give it a try.
We reached there by 7:30AM. There is underground parking lot next door which is very convenient. They charge $5 (early bird special if enter by 8:30AM). There was a long line. It was very cold today. Standing in such a long line was very painful especially with kid. So one of us stood in the line and went into small cafe next door. FYI, By the way cafe has a photo center in case if you forgot to carry pictures.
We entered inside around 8:45 Am and went upstairs to Room 210 stood in a line to get the token. It was very long. May be because yesterday 2/16 was president's day. We went to the desk around 10AM, the lady took approval notice, I-94, 2 Pictures, Advance parole and EAD. She had put I-94,photos,EAD in the small envelop and stapled approval notice and Advanced Parole to envelop and we were given a number (Number will have a letter and 3 digits. Something like F906).
We waited for 2.30hrs for our turn. We went to the officer and gave him the stapled papers and envelop. He filled application by himself I-551 i guess and asked us to sign and take index finger print. he said that was to order cards. Then he asked passports and stamped. No questions asked. The whole process took 10-15 mins to get stamped. That's it. We were out by 12:30
If you call and make an appointment, you can skip two lines (one outside and another one to get token). We have seen a couple who came with an appointment for renewal, they came at 10:30 and left at 12:30 along with us.
