Guys,

Me and my wife got our passport stamped and finger print taken for the card. I guess the war has ended with peace.....

But I got to tell, its been a bumpy roller coaster ride which started 6 years back.....

03/10/04 - notice received
03/15/04 - Stamping at kansas city

Went to INS office at 8.10 am. had 2 ppl standing in front of me. Went to window no. 3. Lady was very friendly and courteous. Told her the reason of my visit. she sand "Some one got approved.....". Then she verified my photos and said there was one person ahead of me and my number should called soon. In 5 minutes, they called my number.
Went to window no. 2 (bald guy was sitting there). He was also very friendly and courteous. Asked for all my current and expired EADs and APs, passport, I94 and photos.
Neatly split mine and my wife's documents into two folders, put all cards and photos in a small cover, attached to the document and asked us to sign the form and took our finger print.

Then Explained about stamping and said will take 1 year to receive the card. If card not received, then we can go in person and get passport stamping valid for one more year.

Ohhhhhhhh.. atlast one process was faster and smoother for me.
Good luck to all others waiting out there... <b>Patience is the KEY</b>

See you guys in plastic card tracking section....

Congratulations to you and ur family

We all appreciate that u share with us ur great experience.

as she said one year......... hope u would have withing 90-150 days..........

keep us update

Good Luck!

Why not fingerprint only at stamping?

Please explain:

is there another finger print during the passport stamping?

What is the point then of the finger prints done during I-485 adjudication?

Why do not they just send all files to local ofices and fingerprint people when they are receiving their passport stamp.

This would help with the backlog tremendously.

Please somebody explain this to me.

Michal.

Michal, yes, there is another FP during Stamping. All they take is the index finger and that is what appears on the Physical Card. The Finger Prints taken at the time of I-485 is more for FBI clearance. I agree with you that they dont need to do it again, but I have also read that you really dont need to get your Passport stamped to get the actual green card.
I was under the assumption that the actual application for the Green Card is done at the time of passport stamping, but I did read some other thread where it said otherwise. Even the photos used were the ones submitted at the time of applying for I-485, so I guess they just get the latest Photos and Index finger print at the time of Passport stamping.

Its different

finger print taken during I-485 looks different from what is taken during passport stamping.

You do not have to get passport stamping, but you still have to go in person to give the index finger print. Passport stamping is only temporary proof for you just in case you want to change job or visit outside United states (or start a business :D )
