Stamped in Garden City

Today I got my passport stamped in Garden city.
Interview was just 5 minutes
I will give details soon.
 
First of all, congratulations.

I thought they didn't stamp passports anymore in New York DO.

Actually, a colleague of mine had his interview in Garden City last month.
After he was verbally approved, he asked for a stamp, since his EAD expired few days before.

They told him that he would need to wait 3/4 hours for another approval.
Exactly 4 hours later he got back his passport with I-551 stamp.

I'm wondering what they need to check after approval.
Did you get it right away? Did you need to ask for it or the officer stamped it himself?
