Stamped at SFO

I took BART from Fremont around 7 AM. Came out of Mantgomery station straight into Samsone street. Six blocks from the station, the BCIS office is located at the junction of Samsone and Washignton.

I reached SFO center at 7.50 AM. Stood in a queue on the Samsone street side. The security there reverted me back to a bigger queue on the Washignton street side. Although it was mentioned in the approval letter to go to 630 Samsone st, he did not allow me in. Again I stood in a longer queue on the Washington street side. The security was heavy. Even my shoes had the previlage of travelling thru the scanner. After they are assured that I did not have any WMD they let me in. I need to show my Driver's Id at 3 places before getting the token. There were around 300 people waiting for various cases inside the building. At the time of issuing token, the clerk asks for your city of residence. There were very few people waiting for I551 stamping.

It took 2 hours for them to call my token. No questions were asked. I returned my 2 I94s, EAD, AP and passports. I submitted the courtesy copy of my approval notice. If you give the attorney's original copy, they'll once again call you to get your home address. The IIO took everything and got my index finger's print and my signature in the I551 form. It took another 2 hours to call my name back to issue me the stamped passport. At 12 noon, I was outside the building with my passport stamped. The stamp is a small, non-glamarous entry in one of the blank pages of the passport. As my family is currently in India on AP, I've to make one more piligrimage to SFO office to get their passport stamping.

I am planning to visit India using this stamp. Hope there will not be any problem and the immigration people at India and Singapore will understand the significance of this otherwise discrete stamping.

Best of luck to all waiting to get their approvals soon.

Cool.

I read a post 2 years back that a guy travelled thru s'pore with just that stamp .. and it was okay. But y'know .. who knows if things have changed.

Just a small doubt ,

Can you use AP if your 485 is approved, If I remember correctly than you should be in USA at the time of your 485 approval.

Otherwise I can always file my 485 and go back home and wait for my approval.

Another thing is that when you applied for your AP (I-131) you must have checked out 2(d) now it has been changed to 2(a)

Sorry, I don't get your question clearly. Yes, we can not use the AP after approval. In fact I even returned my AP to the IIO. But if the I485 is approved while you are outside the country, then you can come in by showing the Ap and then get stamped. My family went to India before I485 was approved. Now, when they come back in, they will show the AP to enter into USA. After entry they are supposed to get the stamping. Thats what my lawer told me.
I don;t remember the 2d or 2a what is that?

God only knows when BCIS is going to approve. If we need to be in US at the time of approval, we can not travel at all, right? that defeats the whole purpose of AP. Some of friends were in India when the approval came, they entered USA back using AP and then got the stamping. Please correct me, if I am wrong.

Thanks

perai123,

My concern was when you applied for AP you said that my AOS is pending and I need to visit my home ( 2(d)), but now condition has been changed as you are PR and visiting USA ( 2(a)).

I mean you are not using AP for the purpose you have filed it.

So it is very much possible that at POE INS will not accept AP and instead they will stamp your PP with I-551.

I am not sure.

But since your friends had used AP after approval in past then its OK and also your lawyer said it.

Yes, you are right, we applied for AP when approval was pending. When they enter at the POE, the IIO there will find out the case has been approved and direct my family to go for stamping within a specified period and they will not issue any I94 thereupon.

Experts, please correct me if my assumption was wrong.

Thanks
