My employment-based I485 was approved on 10/5/2004. My passport expired in September; I applied for an extension in June and haven't heard anything back (I'm not an Indian; for me it can take up to 8 months). Can I get my expired passport stamped?

Thanks in advance.

Stamp is required only when you are travelling overseas, Just visit the local office and complete the formalities of finger print for physical card.

In other words, It's optional to get the passport stamped.

I was asked by officer, whether I would like my passport stamped ?

I did my AOS based on marriage through a district office. At the time of the interview my background check had not completed so I was not approved. I got my approval notice later in the mail. That notice specifically stated I could bring in an expired passport for the I-551 stamp if I did not have a current passport.
