SSS Requirement for applying citizenship

I had become a PR in 2000 at age 31. Before that I was on F-1 status & H-1B status. I did not contact SSS because I was over 26 when I became a PR. What action is needed for me before I can apply using N-400?

All suggestions welcome.

Thanks!

You can get a letter from SSS confirming that you did not have to register. Check http://www.sss.gov/FSmen.htm for instructions and the form that you have to submit to the SSS.

Note that it is not required for the N-400 to have such a letter, as long as you weren't required to register. But you still may want to get it, just for your peace of mind (I did, it arrived within 2 weeks.)

I agree. One of my friend recently went for the N-400 interview in the Dallas DO, and was asked for the SSS letter. He passed the exams, but the examiner marked the status as "decision could not be made at this time". He was told to mail the SSS letter before they could send the oath notification.

P.S: he was 26+ when he became a USPR
