SSS certificate

Hello!
I had a question about the SSS. I was not required to register with the SSS (legal nonimmigrant between 18 an 26), and got my GC after 26. So I was never required to register.

I called the USCIS number to ask them about it, and they said I need to get in touch with the SSS and get a certificate stating I was not required to register, and send that along with my aplication. I read the forums, and a lot of people havent done that. Is it really required?

Thanks.

It depends... if you were in the US on a student visa, I recommend you get a SS status letter. If not, then you don't really need one. My reason for suggesting this is because there can be gaps in student status, so getting the letter clears up an uncertainly in the IO's mind.

To get a letter, the selective service administration will generally want proof of your visa status during the time you were in the US under age 26.
