SSN requirement on L1 application

Hello,

I was going through the L1 application form and it asks for previous social security number if there was one issued.

I was 10 years old when my family went to the states for a visit and got a SSN. Those SSN's were not authorized to work.

I don't have that SSN with me and my parent's don't know where it is either. Do i have to write that SSN on the application, if i don't does it jeopardize my processing at the border?

There are ways to get SSN. You can either consult the Embassy via e-mail and see if it works. A 2nd option is to write an e-mail to www.ssa.gov. A 3rd option is to directly call Social Security. In all 3 options, you will have to provide your passport details.

If you were previously issued an SSN #, you will have to mention it. There could be an option of stating "DO NOT REMEMBER", but please try options presented above.

Thanks for the quick response. The passport that was used was a different nationality. I don't even have that passport anymore nor the details of it.

Judging from your post, it appears to be very important to mention this during the application process.

The SSN# is used for a variety of reasons, including but not limited to, background check, in order to determine if the beneficiary is free of any criminal history. So, yes, from that perspective, it is quite important.

You can consult an immigration lawyer and see if there are alternatives available.
