SSN for wife

My wife is currently on H4 and we have filed I-485. Once she receives her EAD, if she applies for SSN, does her status change to EAD (from H4, even though she wont be using the EAD for employment)?

I am hoping she can still remain on H4 even after she receives her SSN using her EAD. Please shed some light on this.

She will still be on H-4 if she applies for SSN.
If she starts working based on EAD (by filling form I-9), then she is no more on H-4.
