SSN for kids

Dear friends,

My kids do not have SS number. For electronic filing of Tax returns through Turbo Tax, the system asks for SSN for kids also, otherwise, I have to file through regular mail.

Do you have other views on this, is it Ok to file without SSN for kids.

Do your Kid have ITIN Number ? if yes than you can use that instead of SSN ..

if not then apply for ITIN ASAP and then do your taxes ,
if you claim any one as dependent on your tax that person must have either ITIN or SSN ..

You can also apply for EAD and then SSN#. I did for my child too. Probably, you can not claim for child tax credit without SSN#.

You can quote ITIN number for wife and kids when filing. If you have ITIN then SSN not neccessary for dependents.
