SSN card and EAD

Hello Everyone,
My wife was/is on H4 visa and she has the Social Security card that says something like "NOT Valid for Working purpose".

Now she has got EAD card (through my Green card I-145 applicaton) and wants to work.

Do I need to go to SSN office and change SSN card or what do I need to do so far SSN card is concerned?

Any reply will be appreciated.

Yes, you will need to goto the nearest SSA office and notify them. I'm not sure if you can use the same SSN, or they give you a new one, but your wife does have to go there before she starts working. You may be able to call your local office and find out what documents are required before making the trip there.
 
If you have EAD- it does not matter what your SS Card says. I have been working for last 7-8 yrs with H1, and al that- the SS card does not change.

I understand what you have said. SSN number will not change, but the restriction that is written on SSN card needs to be lifted else it will be difficult to get paid.

If one has H1 visa and then he/she gets the SSN card, then you can work. But if one is on H4 visa and then gets SSN card, then the restriction "not allowed to work" applies which will create problem during payment when you start working based on EAD.

SSN is not the the controlling document for employment authorization, EAD is. Having that annotation " not valid for work" will not affect the ability to work in any way provided one has a valid EAD.

How did you get a SSN in the first place for your wife . I thought you done get a SSN if you are on H4 .

You need to take the restriction off. You need gor social security office fill up form over their.

Not now but you could have it before.
 
Rotny,
She got the SSN long ago, before 9/11, from Illinois. That time IL used to give SSN even to H4. But 9/11 has changed those nice days.
