SSN card after GC

Anyone knows about the procedure to get a new SSN card after GC stamping? Why don't they do it automatically like they do it for CP cases?

Go to the SS office, show them your GC and ask to remove the condition from your SS card and you will get it in two weeks.

Here is my guess for the reason they do not do it automatically ...

Most of the people who do CP...are going to enter the country for the first time while most of the people who are already in the USA file for 485.
It is easy for them to issue a new card to someone who has never been here before. However for a person who is already in the USA needs to be treated on a case by case basis.
