It is not very important. But why not judt do it to set
all government records straight?

Eligibility for some SS and medical benefits might be different
for citizens and PRs.

Many folks even got SSN without any legend while
on F-1 H1B etc. But they still went to SSA
to get a new SN card after becoming PRs.
So the same reason for the same thing after
becoming a citizens.

I think all applicants should go there except small childrens.

(if it is for a replacement card, then it can be done by mail
but you need to send original documents by mail, which
many do not want to do )

If you already have SSN cards, I suggest you wait
soemtime to let USCIS update online records
so that SSA can verify. This is not an urgent thing
to do and and you can ready read many people here choose
not to do it all.

You do not need to wait to receive your plastic cards to get new or replacement SSN cards. My wife and I got our SSN's ( new for my wife and replacement to remove restrictions for me) on the same day we got our I-551 passport stamp. The SSN officer looked at our stamping and was good with that. We received our SSN cards within a week.

I think if one goes through theI-485 route then the data base is current, but if ones goes through the CP route then it could take anywhere from 1 week to a couple of months. Even a physical GC is not good enough for SSA, they need electronic confirmation from the same CIS data base.
 
I agree. That's what the lady at the dumb SSA office told me. They will verify the proof provided by us and then do it.
