SS Tax refund if you return to your home country?

In order for you to eligible for SS you should have paid into the system for 40 quarters(10 years) else you will not get anything.
401k you can rollover it into IRA and manage it online, if you withdraw you have to pay tax+10% penalty.
 
you can apply for refund of your SS taxes

I did that when I was on J-1...never had SS tax withheld.
WHen I came back on H-1..working history starts at zero again
