SS# after getting EAD (from H1B)

I just got my EAD today (filed with I-485, married to a US citizen). I used to have H1B status, thus I already have an SS card/# that says "Valid for Employment with INS authorization only." I believe someone with an EAD and in adjustment status receives the same kind of SS card.

My question: Can anyone in similar status (H1 to EAD) tell me what they did? Do I have to go to the SSA to get an updated card? Do I have to inform them of my change of status? Or do I just use my existing card since I will have the same number anyway?

Thanks!

You can only get a new ss card, once your conditional green card has been mailed to you. An EAD only does not let the SS people give you an updated ss card. So wait.

Changing from H1 to EAD or to another visa does entitle you to a new SS card, nor does it require you to inform the SSA of your status. When you get a green card that's when you should update your status with them and apply for the new card.

Thanks for the replies guys!

Jackolantern -- you do mean "does NOT entitle you to a new SS card" correct?
