Hi ,
I'm a canadian citizen. I recently got a TN visa status and my spouse got a TD visa status as well. My wife has been permanent resident Canada for almost two years. If she moves with me to the States will she be eligible for applying Canadian citizenship after three years of her permanent residency. I heard from a friend of mine. if a person holds canadian citizenship his or her spouse will automatically can apply Canadian citizenship after three years of her residency. Is that right?

Thanks

She HAS to satisfy the condition of 3 years of physical presence in Canada in order to apply for the citizenship. She can keep her PR status alive if she accompanies you in the states. But to be eligible for the cdn citizenship, she HAS to fulfill the physical presence requirement - mearly being a lawful PR for 3 years is no good for the citizenship purpose.

What you have heard from your friend is not true.
