Spouse Last Name change

GC-TO-CITIZEN

New Member
Hi All,

I am about to file the CITIZENSHIP for my self and for my wife. Did any body have gone thru the spouse last name change option in Los Angeles area recently? I want to change her last name to mine as I have not done it during the GC process. Should I check the name change option and write the new last name and first name as it is right now? Please advice.

Thanks

We filed our application Apr 10 , No name change selected.,at the time of filing.
During the interview 07/06 at San francisco , my wife mentioned she would like to change her last name to married name. Office asked for marraige certificate. She showned that. No problem. we received her oath letter for 08/05. No issue. No delay at all. We have 2 kids and they asked name of the kids and details. No issue at all. It is quick change in my opinion.
Goodluck with your name change.

If you wish to have any ties with your home country, be sure to check the rules/policies of your home country. We were debating the same thing some time ago, and decided to change the last name of my spouse before filing for N-400. The whole process took us about 3 weeks.

My attorney here who was helping me file the N-400 suggested this (as this would make the naturalization process easier). I checked with the consulate of my home country (India) and they said the same as well (as it would make the process of getting the OCI & any future interaction with the Indian government easier).
