Spouse/children are not landing? Can I sponsor them as a PR?

Hi fellow members,

Situation: Wife and children might not be able to land since they are attending school and do not want to take the hassle/extra costs of landing. Currently, we are waiting for GC and just like many of you and as you all know there is along queue so we cannot make up our minds to just pack up and leave.

I have couple of questions and wanted to see if others had any experiences or advice they can give:

1. If spouse/children do not land before the expiry date on the PR visa, then what happens? PR visa will expire but hopefully, it shouldn't go against them when landing in future.

2. How difficult is it to apply/sponsor for your spouse/children as a Permanent resident and how long does it take?

3. One of my daughter has overstayed her US visa, so if we land then she cannot re-enter US. What should we do?

If they do not land before the expiry date on the visa their PR status is cancelled.

If you are the only person landing as a PR then if you wish to sponsor your family for PR in future you will have to be physically present in Canada. The time to sponsor depends where your spouse and children are living. Check the following link for avg timelines:

Well you have to decide how important the Canadian immigration is for your future. I suggest that you find a way out and all of you land.

Dont you think that there will be a problem for your daughter's GC application as she has overstayed?
