Spouse applying on a later date

Hello forum members,

My particulars:

a. Permanent resident: since mid-December 2001
b. Outside-of-US stay: 7 months (single visit) in 2002
c. Returned to US: early-December 2002
d. Didn't leave US: since my last return to US (from December 2002)
e. My spouse becomes eligible to apply for citizenship in mid-September this year (under the 90-day rule).
f. Under the 4 years + 1 day rule (since my last return to US), I reach that date in December 2006 (coincidentally, I will also be completing my 5 years of permanent residency in mid-December 2006).
g. To avoid uncertainty, I rather decided to apply in mid-December 2006 (both 5 yrs of residency completed, and 4-yr & 1-day rule met)
h. We also decided, my spouse will apply next week by himself as he becomes eligible (under the 90-day rule).

Our questions:

1. Is there any disadvantage of applying separately for spouses (as both of us received our permanent residence together through my husband's employment)?

2. While my husband applies in mid-September, is it OK for me to apply in December 2006 (as we decided, or do I need to apply even later!)

Please help. Thank you in advance.

1) I don't think so -- they seem to pretty much ignore spousal togetherness (just my impression). Each application is considered separately.
