Hi All,

Is there an income limit/requirement to sponsor siblings and parents once we become U.S.Citizens? Appreciate any comments.

Well, I just know that a friend with 60k family income had no problem whatsoever to get his parents Greencards within 6 months.
But somebody else could give you more detailed information I hope ...

Thanks ocworker. It makes sense. I have a question though. I got my greencard through employment. I came to U.S as a graduate student and worked several years and got the greencard in the meantime. I am now in another professional school where I am getting federal student aid (substantial amount). I now work part time, but don't make much money. Can I apply for my family, based on the student aid, I will be earning decent amount soon.

I assume you are getting aid through FAFSA. As far as I know, that is a loan that you eventually have to pay back. So, it certainly is not income and I don't think it can be used to get past the poverty limits.

Thanks. I get some FAFSA, some grants and some scholarship.

Grants and scholarships!

Are you reporting the grants and scholarships to IRS as income?
 whatever is reported in 1040 that would be your income ;)

since you received your greencard thru employment, do you have any saving? if your income does not meet the guideline, you could have to include your assets, such as house, bonds, stocks, saving..etc

or you can have a co-sponsor.

if neither one works for you, you might need to get a good job or start saving more money.

how many people are you going to sponsor? what is your household size? you can use this info to see what is the minmum figure you have to meet.

I hate to say that thou.. if you think you would make a decent amount soon, may be you should wait until you can actually make a decent amount then apply for your family coming to US.

Since your siblings will have to wait for at least 10 yrs, may be it is better to file the petition for your parents ONLY, so, you would not need to meet higher guideline.

Not true that it'd take 15 to 20 years for siblings. Mine took the longest compared to my siblings petitioned by our US citizen siblings. Mine was 12 years.
