Vault and all the other gurus of immigration.com,
I had sponsored my parents to Canada last year for permanent residence. As a part of this process, you sign a 10 year bond stating that they will not take any financial help from the government. My question: a) If I move to US and my parents continue to live in Canada, can I claim a non-resident canadian status?....its got something to do with ties in canada(property, family etc)....I know that your family(wife, kids) can move with you to US if you claim a non-resident canadian status.....b) can my parents (since they are my dependents) also be allowed to live with me in US if I claim non resident status.?? c) Can they still be canadian permanent residents even though I choose to be a non -resident canadian status?

thanks a lot in advance for your help.

How would your parents stay in the US on a long term basis? B1/B2 visas would not help.

They could stay for 1 6 month period I suppose but what next? I would like to know what you find out in this regard..

Their conditions for stay in Canada is not related to your sponsorship as far as I know. Nowadays the period accompanying your spouse who is a canadian citizen outside of Canada is counted towards your citizenship but I have no idea if that applies to parents accompanying Canadian citizen children.

If you find out please let us know.
