Hi,

My wife and I are not making enough money as required by the sponsor's requirement. However, I'm planning to buy a house (cash) with my parent's money and put the house under our names. Can we used that as "assets"?

Thank you in advance,

Using the house you live in can be problematic.

Who is filing an immigrant petition for who? You are a US citizen filing for your wife?

Do you guys have investment accounts?

When I did the I-864 about a year ago, I could not use my wife's income since it was a contact position and there was no guarantee that it would last after she got her GC. I was short on the income requirement, so I included my investment account and provided a copy of the latest statement. I also had a family member that volunteered to be a co-sponsor. When we went to our interview, I inquired about the I-864 and the officer said that is handled at MSC and it wouldn't of gotten sent to the DO if it wasn't approved. They accepted my I-864 with the investment account in full and didn't even look at the co-sponsor information.

No, we don't have investment accounts.
We will be paying cash for the house though...
I probably can show a bank statement that shows the amount of money. However, does the name of the account has to be under mine name or my parents?

Did your co-sponsor make enough money to qualify?

But, how much money do you think I have to prove???

Thank you very much,

I did I-864 two months back.
I was not making enough income to qualify as sponsor but a friend of mine co sponsored (he was making enough).
Second thing i have some money in my account, so i sent the bank statement too.

Hi Sukhi,

The only issue that I've right now is to find a sponsor. Some of my friends were willing to do it but at the end no one did.
I guess there is no other solution but to have a sponsor, right?

Thanks

Are your parents permanent residents or citizens? If yes, they can be joint sponsors and show the cash in their account(s).

This involves a great financial risk. It is foolish to sponsor any but a very close relative. Sponsorship obligation even exists after a divorce.
