Sponser a son over 21 and married

I have a green card and applied for my son who was not married when I applied back in 2006. He is married now with 2 kids and they contacted me to apply for his affidavit support. They asked me to send the marriage certificate and the birth cirtificate of his kids. Does that mean that the case is still valid despite that he got married?

The petition became nullified once he got married, because you're not a US citizen.

Asking for the marriage certificate is either a routine request they do without thinking, or it's so they can have documentation on file to support the rejection.
