Spoke with IIO but probably no use

After waiting for almost a year after filing I485 (RD 8/01, ND 9/01) and having heard nothing from TSC, last Friday I called up and spoke with an IIO. It was about 10 minutes of dialing and 10 minutes of waiting around mid day CST.

She was not rude for a change but seems new hire because I had to explain to her what I485 application was (to my surprise!) and that it was also called Adjustment of Status to Permanent Residence. Anyway, obviously she was of no help but at least didn't repeat the official line "We are processing 2000 cases, call back after a year, etc" like lot of you have posted on this board.

After lot of prodding, she mentioned that my fingerprinting has been ordered and it is up to the computer to schedule an appointment. I don't know whether that is indeed true or whether she said that to get me off her back- only time will tell. What does that mean guys? Is this ordering of fingerprinting a real step in the process or is it automatically done when the application is filed?

Mistery

It appears to be computer process running on database with all the I-485 applications information. Even after careful analysis by so many software engineers in this region, nobody was able to get to the logic behind this scheduling program and what the hell it is doing (or do we know ?). Either it must be a containing very complex logic involving lot of factors like work load, old and new cases etc. or it must be buggy.

FP uses game theory - Just for fun!!!

:) I think the FP scheduling computer uses game theory and throws dice and picks an application to schedule the FP.

This may be true! Our bad luck

"Is this ordering of fingerprinting a real step in the process or is it automatically done when the application is filed?"

FP is a real step in the process.

Q: You mentioned that you had to explain to the IIO what I485 was. Did you also explain what FP was? If you didn't, and she told you that your FP was ordered (from her computer), then may be you can believe her. But if you told her what FP was, then may be she was generally quoting it.

All the best.

If the entire process was indeed computerised and there existed a database of all I485 applications, as GC_Aspirant suggests, we would not be in this boat at all. If you would recount the columns published by the attorneys at www.usvisanews.com some time ago about the way TSC does business i.e., handles all these applications, you will remember the very lack of computers in their daily work. It is a manual filing system guys, unheard of in todays information age, particularly in the US. It is a shame! Five years ago when I told my peers in the MidWest that I was moving to Texas they laughed at me, now I know why! I think TSC is inefficient, lacks motivated employees (probably pays them nothing), and probably even corrupt. Otherwise, how would you explain the fact that TSC is almost a year behind the other centers.

Bajis- I did explain to the IIO that typically the fingerprinting is done within 4-6 months of filing the application and expressed concern that mine has not been done. So like you said she might have picked up the cue from that line of conversation. I know that FP is real step in the process but I was wondering whether this "ordering of fingerprint" is an actual action or just a loosely-used terminology.

Good luck to us all.
