I talked to an immigration officer and she said they still have to receive papers of from abroad (India) so till then they cannot do anything. Does anyone know what it means and how long it may take.

I-140 for CP or AOS?

Is your I-140 approved for CP or AOS? Very likely it\'s for CP and was forwarded to American Consulate to India. And if that\'s the case, it will take months for INS to get it back.

If your 140 was approved for CP, the NVC would have sent your papers to the Consulate in India. Now they would have asked the Consulate to send back 140 papers and till it comes your case will be kept.

Other reason

It could be some other required doc. that we don\'t know.

Sometimes the INS could send it for a CIA check (randomly selected cases). They wait for two months to get a response from them..if nothing is heard, they go ahead with the rest of your case.
