I just finished my call with an IIO (a nice lady called Cary). Details are:
- Started dialling at around 10:10 a.m.
- After about 20-30 times hitting the redial button, got through the line.
- Checked my wife's and my status online, although I already knew what it was.
- Then pressed 0 to connect to IIO, basically wanted to find out about my attorney change and EAD renewal.
- Got the message that they have extremely high call volumes and it would take at least 10 minutes to get connected.
- Finally got connected with an IIO at 10:30 a.m.

- After the usual pleasantries, asked her the questions that I had.
"Our EADs expire, on 1/2/2003 and 1/22/2003 respectively, should I renew them or hold on?"
"Well, right now we are processing upto 9/15/2003, so your cases should take around 1-2 months for being processed."
"Regarding EAD renewal", she said, "it's entirely your decision, right now we are processing EADs within 60-90 days and that we are both within the time frame for applying for renewal."
I told her that as per their web-site, I can renew our EADs at Boston, INS. To that she said that if our I-485s were filed at VSC then we should renew them at VSC, and not at Boston. She said that the web-site could be wrong.
Then I asked her about the attorney change that I had done and she checked the same info. with our EAC nos. and confirmed that it was done. Incidentally this was the first time during our conversation I told her about our EAC#. All this while I was annonymous.
For the curious, our RDs are 11/13/2001 and she confirmed this. Please note that our NDs are in Dec. but there was no usual confusion there.
Finally here's what I am going to do:
1. Don't want to take a risk, with EAD renewals and not so worried about $120 X 2. So we'll plan this week or early next week to go to Boston, INS and try the EAD renewal there.
2. If Boston, INS asks me to renew them with VSC, then mail them to VSC..
All the gurus, please let me know if this approach is OK.
Thanks for taking time to read this...
