This forum is great, wonder why i discovered it so late :)
Guys, whats the best way for a specialist to get GC? I will be starting in an underserved area in Tx on July1,2005, God Willing, doing a hem-onc waiver job. EB2-NIW seem to be limited to primary care. Has any one used EB2-NIW (outstanding researcher) route? What qualifys you as an "outstanding researcher" ?.

One of my radiology colleagues did that. He did his waiver time at a hospital affiliated with an Ivy league school and received strong support from the department. Interestingly enough he had never published and didn't do any meaningful research. (Note, he didn't get his NIW sponsored as a physician through the VA but he rather self-sponsored in the generic NIW category).

Also, a relative (specialist) submitted a HPSA NIW with state DPH letter and got it approved ! In the meantime he has an LC and will adjust through that rather than running the risk of the service noticing their error.

Physician GC's through the EB-1 'extraordinary ability' route are hard to get unless you have extremely strong hardcore research and outstanding letters to back it up.
